Scholarships Available for Online Students

Rising college expenses are driving more students to online learning. Depending on the school and living costs, federal financial aid may not be enough for some students, and some do not qualify for it but still require assistance. Fortunately, organizations nationwide offer scholarship awards to help students complete their education.

In November 2023, the Education Data Initiative reported that the average cost of tuition in the US at a 4-year institution was $19,806, accounting for 54% of college expenses. Many online students often need scholarship funds the most. Distance learning is a cost-effective and time-efficient way to attend college, especially for those working full-time or caring for children.

There are thousands of scholarships, but finding ones a student may qualify for can be difficult. Most colleges have a list of scholarships available, but the competition can be high. However, some organizations focus specifically on scholarships to make it easier for students to sift through the masses and apply for scholarships that work for them.

Scholarships.com is a free scholarship search tool that helps students find and apply for scholarships to pay for college. Brennan K. from San Diego, CA, stated, “Scholarships.com helped me in so many ways it’s unbelievable. They made it so easy for me to find what I was looking for and consolidate it into one easy-to-find website.”

He continued, “They even, by asking me a few questions during registration, weeded out all of the scholarships that I wasn’t eligible for. This made it extremely convenient for me because I didn’t have to look at this huge clutter of random scholarships, I only was presented with the scholarships that I was eligible for.”

The Online Schools Center aims to provide flexible online options for business professionals, stay-at-home parents, and those with busy schedules. Numerous private scholarship opportunities are listed on their website, including the Get Educated Online College Scholarship. This scholarship is awarded twice a year for students in a distance education program and offers $1,000 based on both merit and financial aid needs.

Sallie Mae is a consumer banking company that offers student loans. “Every dollar counts, whether it’s for $1,000 or $10,000,” says Connor Peoples, a spokesperson for Sallie Mae. “That’s just money that you’re not going to have to pay back after graduation.”

There are several options available to find out about scholarships. You can contact the financial aid office at the school you plan to attend or search for information in a public library or online. However, it is important to exercise caution and ensure that the scholarship information and offers you receive are genuine. Remember that you do not need to pay to find scholarships or other financial aid.
